Fighting For The Right To Fight Ceremony

August 23 @ 3:00 pm - 5:00 pm
Ceremony honoring the Montford Point Marines, the first African Americans in the U.S. Marine Corps, with posthumous Congressional Gold Medals.

The Fighting For The Right To Fight ceremony is a powerful tribute to the Montford Point Marines — the first African Americans to serve in the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II.

Facing relentless segregation and discrimination, these Marines served with honor, overcoming every challenge they faced and decades later, the nation honored their extraordinary courage and sacrifice with the Congressional Gold Medal.

It will honor the bravery and legacy of New York and New Jersey heroes, including David Dinkins, Ken Rollock, and Joe Wilder. Their families will receive posthumous Congressional Gold Medals, a tribute to lives defined by courage, leadership, and cultural excellence. The ceremony not only commemorates their military works but also their legacy for future generations.

This special program will take place on Saturday, August 23, 2025, at Tishman Auditorium, The New School in New York City.
