Book Is Better Club: The Color Purple offers a depth look at Alice Walker’s Pulitzer Prize and National Book Award-winning novel, a powerful story of African American women’s resilience, sisterhood, and triumph over abuse.
Set in early 20th-century rural Georgia, the novel follows 2 sisters, Celie and Nettie as they endure hardship, separation, and racism while sustaining hope and love throughout the years. Through heartfelt letters, the novel explores themes of healing, forgiveness, self-discovery, and empowerment.
This special event at Liz’s Book Bar features a book discussion led by bookseller and bartender Siah, followed by a screening of the acclaimed film adaptation.
