The legendary Harlem neighborhood is known for many things, from the Apollo Theater to its rich Black history. However, did you know that it has also been home to the Uptown Night Market for the past few years?

The Uptown Night Market, New York’s most popular food festival, officially returned to Harlem on April 11, 2024, at 4 p.m. It reportedly kicked off beneath the arches at 12th Avenue and 133rd Street despite the inclement weather.

“Beyond the array of diverse cuisines and unique vendors, the Night Market serves as a vital platform for local businesses, offering a stage for the rich tapestry of talents within the community,” its website states. “By spotlighting local artisans, chefs, and entrepreneurs, the market not only celebrates the unique cultural flavors of Harlem but also contributes to the economic vitality of the area.”

The site also says that the Uptown Night Market fosters a “communal gathering space” where residents and tourists can come together and enjoy festivities. It brilliantly showcases the creativity, talent, and business acumen that lies within the iconic community of Harlem.

This summer is going to be one for the books, so you should definitely squeeze a trip to this evening event into your schedule. If you are planning to attend, here are seven things to look forward to at the Uptown Night Market.

  1. It takes place every second Thursday of each month from April to October.
  2. It’s an open-air market.
  3. It features 80 vendors and a plethora of cuisines from soul food to Caribbean to Latin and more.
  4. It also features live performances from DJ and Harlem Late Night Jazz.
  5. On top of food, there are also vendors selling locally-made goods like beauty products and apothecaries.
  6. Admission is free, but RSVP’ing is strongly encouraged.
  7. It attracts nearly 15,000 guests at each event.
